When offering amaryllis bulbs, you should take a few things into consideration.
1. Is your bulb healthy? – Please make sure the bulb you offer is healthy! It should be firm. A healthy bulb is nice and hard, has no soft spots or mushy areas. The basal plate should be intact. It’s leaves shouldn’t have spots or mottled colors (which indicate virus). If you’re unsure of your bulb’s health, do not offer it to your fellow gardeners. There are many resources on the web where you can find information about diseases that affect amaryllis. Take the time to look a few up. It will be worth your while.
2. Is your bulb bloom size? – A bloom size bulb measures anywhere from 2″ to 4″ in diameter.
3. Has your bulb bloomed true to it’s name? Or is it a NOID (no ID) bulb? Do you have a photo you could show to an interested person? Make sure your identifications and descriptions are accurate.
